The Plants Are Talking back
This sneaker is a wearable interpretation of my original painting, The Plants Are Talking, the last in the “escape of the spiders” series. My art is a way of creating a world that I want to live in—a world that is vibrant, surreal, and designed to ignite a sense of joy. This scene captures a moment of curiosity, inspired by a walk in a San Diego park, where the light played a trick and cast a shadow that to me looked like Mickey Mouse, sparking in me an inspiration to take it and run, from far into another realm. A place of dreams.
This design is a symphony of hot pink, red, and deep violet—a study in high-energy color and whimsical tension. It is a world where nature defies the ordinary: plants morph into birds, a paper airplane glides silently from a mysterious window, and spider stowaways wait for their chance to escape. The scene is alive with drama, from the tongue-wagging snake plants to the yelling neighbors.
Woven into the rhythm of this composition are my signature black-and-white stripes. They are a quiet, recurring tribute to my brother—a brilliant pianist whose music continues to influence my paintings. It is my way of keeping his melody alive in every piece of art I create.
