Take the Clothes In, Mama
This design is a surreal reimagining of a sandy road I walked on Harbour Island in the Bahamas. It’s an eclectic, charming little place, and I wanted to capture that feeling of vibrant, island eccentricity.
“I painted this scene after walking past a turquoise cottage with laundry hanging on the line beneath a looming indigo sky. Beyond the sea grapes and sand dunes sat a pink sand beach. There were paint cans strewn on the sand behind the house and chickens wandering around. It was just one of those perfectly quirky, beautiful moments that felt like it belonged in a dream. I took that scene and put it on these shoes.”
Because the island is so unique, the shoes are too. Each side is different—there’s no repetition here. On one side, you’ve got brightly colored trees blown up large against that dark indigo sky. On another, you see the sea grapes and the paint cans. Then, you have the colorful laundry hanging on the line. It’s a landscape that shifts as you turn, and no one else has shoes like that!
My signature black-and-white stripes are woven into the rhythm of the design, too—a quiet way to keep my brother’s music alive in the work.
